Marty: Found as a newborn chick abandoned in a motel with a bag of food, somewhere near the Detroit area in the Spring of 2019. We were called by a compassionate motel worker, and SASHA came to the rescue. She was named Marty in a contest at the Spring Social 2019 by one of SASHA’s longtime supporters. She loves all humans and animals at the Farm, and in fact, follows our Animal Care Manager everywhere. She is all grown up and much loved by the visitors, staff and volunteers!

Phoenix the Young Rooster: Phoenix, while still a male chick, was surrendered to SASHA Farm after being in an elementary school classroom. The young student who brought him here decided that he would have a better life at SASHA Farm. Phoenix is now a thriving young rooster, loved by all of the volunteers!

Jack was acquired by a SASHA volunteer who wanted to rescue a turkey for herself. So this volunteer found a farmer breeding turkeys for Thanksgiving who was in over his head with the number of birds. But then our volunteer brought Jack to SASHA Farm where she could be with other turkeys and have more space and companionship. Jack was named in memory of the volunteer’s father-in-law, who had recently passed away. It was originally believed that Jack was a male, but with time we discovered he was, indeed, a she.

Fiona is a turkey who just checked herself into SASHA Farm’s “spa” for birds and other farm animals. Sometime in late 2018 (right before Thanksgiving), our staff and volunteers found a new member of the turkey flock. We checked with all the close by locals but no one was missing a turkey. She loved SASHA and was so joyful to have a home after her wanderings. We love this beautiful girl.
